Self service bike-renting system

Worksheet

Client :

Transdev

Transdev wished to expand its services to the new market segment of non-polluting transportation means.

Realization

In 2005, faberNovel introduced Transdev to the Deutsche Bahn, which was already running the “Call-A-Bike” service in main German cities. These two transportation groups became partners and created AlloCyclo, a self-service bike-renting system that works with mobile phones.

Transdev then entrusted faberNovel with a triple mission:

  • Be responsible for the transfer of technology, warrant the product’s technical reliability and adapt it to French cities’ specific characteristics
  • Assist Transdev in its commercial approach: canvassing, launching of the operational stage, experimentation monitoring, expertise and recommendations
  • Ensure the product’s long lasting future and conduct several research plans in order to improve and expand the operation.

For the operations to progress smoothly, faberNovel showed:

  • its thorough expertise of the self service bike sector
  • its knowledge and expertise in Communications and Information Technology so as to integrate them in various functions of the end-product
  • its capacity to expediently gather the adequate human resources and obtain the required technical, legal and commercial input
  • its ability to imagine, create and define a service that is easy to deploy (product design, deployment and maintenance procedures)

Results:

Réflex is the first French network based on the AlloCyclo concept. It was launched in December 2007 in Chalon-sur-Saône.

AlloCyclo is Transdev’s “citizen respectful eco-responsible transportation” showcase. The very strong competition that exists on the French market forces the concerned industries and companies to be in constant search for new ways to improve their offer (size and deployment capacity, prices, technology). Transdev continues to trust faberNovel with the responsibility of providing French cities with an ever more adaptable and eco-innovative service. Several consultations and invitations to bid are ongoing at the moment.
