Alternate Reality Games provide players with varied and immersive experiences, and are powerful communication tools.

Digital games and tools make it possible to set up better communication where participants are involved in a more relevant and immersive way than traditional means allow. An alternate reality game gives the consumer the impression of being in the fictional universe, thus creating a strong identification to the product

faberNovel’s work

To meet Turner’s objectives, faberNovel conceived the first Alternate Reality Game for children. As the modern heir to treasure hunts, ARGs are designed to provide players with an immersive environment, in a rich and fun transmedia universe where the borders between reality and fiction fade, clearing the way for adventure!

During the 10-mission game that lasted for a month and half, children joined the “Human Force” to

·         Investigate on an alien invasion of a Toys’R’US

·         Call Ben on his cell phone to know where to meet him

·         Interrogate characters via their Facebook profiles and blogs

·         Play with Flash games

·         Find the hidden secrets of the series’ heroes

To tighten the link between Cartoon Network and Ben 10, a mission featured the Head of the Channel, who explained in a press conference how Cartoon Network’s antenna had been hijacked to air a fake mission to the Human Force.

The ARG scenario complements the cartoon, making it possible for children to learn more about the characters.

faberNovel satisfied Turner’s objectives, without using traditional contests. Instead, faberNovel emphasized the quality of the scenario, and bridged the previous and the following season together - which aired beginning of 2011.
