Context

With ecosystems evolving rapidly, faberNovel needs to identify the structural trends of innovation. New players join the game, business models change, leaders in innovation create best practices, behaviors adapt. These are some of the transformations faberNovel was meant to analyze.

In this context, faberNovel publishes its work in research papers, official reports and sociological surveys.

Google: Key success factors of the web’s undisputed champion – November 2008

This study focuses on determining the reasons behind Google’s industrial and commercial success. faberNovel identified 6 factors explaining Google’s unquestionable ascent: scalability, network effects, data tracking, openness, collaborative creation and business model.

  • The study examines how these factors work within the search engine’s strategic framework and did so from its creation stage up to now
  • These mechanisms, although created for a digital environment, may in fact be used by all companies related to the digital world, but also, on a broader scale, by any innovative industry.

Sociological and behavioral surveys: Sociogeek.com – October 2008

Jointly with Orange Labs (behavior study) and Fondation Internet Nouvelle Génération (new generation Internet foundation), faberNovel created a survey platform meant to identify the habits and behaviors of Internet users: www.sociogeek.com

The first of these surveys was launched in October 2008. Internet surfers were asked a series of questions so as to understand the identity mechanisms in online social networks:

  • Finding out identity exposure practices on the Net: disclosure processes, creation of multiple identities, online modesty experiences.
  • Analyzing the reasoning behind the creation of a personal online social network: selective criteria for choosing online contacts, friendship typology based on various major networks, differences between virtual and real networks.

Social Networks: Leading social networks’ best practices – November 2007

We analyze leading social networks with the aim of identifying their key factors of success:

  • Analysis of those mechanisms that are specific to social networks: network organization, virality mechanism, network typology, metrics and Key Performance Indicators, virtual identity matrix.
  • Case study for two types of networks: dating websites and professional social networks. faberNovel particularly focuses on analyzing business models, recruiting policies, loyalty development approaches and competitive service differentiation.
